The Director will have responsibility for defining, driving, and delivering strategies to ensure world-class long-term planning, development, project management, and design support of a large portfolio of Walt Disney World development and renovation projects. With a special focus on safety, the position is responsible for overseeing all scopes of work, design development, compliance, and approvals, development of and adherence to schedules and budgets, cost controls, field construction, and project controls compliance processes while fostering an environment for the best client and employee experiences. The Director will lead both a project portfolio team as well as team of Architecture and Engineering professionals, ensuring the delivery of innovative and high-quality solutions. The Director must take ownership of the project process and be able to identify and mitigate project risks and challenges. The Director must be comfortable in a matrix organization with a high level of visibility and must understand the impacts of projects on key business metrics.
This role reports to the Vice President, Walt Disney World Facilities Asset Management and is based in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
Goals/Objectives
• Safeguard Walt Disney World Cast Members, Guests, and contractors by promoting a Culture of Safety where safety is prioritized, discussed, role modeled, and recognized. Ensure practices, policies, procedures, and training that support a strong safety operation are in place. Establish safety diligence through an appropriate level of measurement, audit, and review, with respect to both the high safety standards of The Walt Disney Company and all labor and legal regulations.
• Develop and implement programs that protect the assets of the company, enhance the Guest and Cast Member experiences, and minimize disruption to the operation.
• Schedule planned projects with a focus on optimizing financial and human resources.
• Recruit, hire, train, and lead talented resources across the Facility Asset Management team.
• Forecast, communicate, and proactively resolve asset, scheduling, risk, and budget issues in a transparent manner.
• Collaboratively share resources and best practices with domestic and international partners throughout the organization.
• Develop and support meaningful and consistent performance measures, standard operating guidelines, and program/project controls and governance with a focus on clear expectations and accountabilities.
• Build relationships with peers, clients, and partners to ensure a strong, efficient network.
• Lead the development and implementation of innovative / cost effective engineering and architectural solutions.
• Ensure all projects are completed to our highest quality standards.
• Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment across the FAM organization and key organizational / governmental stakeholders.
• Drive continuous improvement in our design and engineering standards.
• Develop / leverage new technologies and engineering solutions that will drive the best value and most cost effective / efficient solutions.
• Implement and oversee quality control processes (Construction Admin Support) to ensure that all projects meet the highest standards of quality and performance in congruence with our contract / project documents.
• Responsible for the development and justification of all relative regulatory-related project work through the IFP in partnership with all key stakeholders and relative government officials as-applicable.
Responsibilities
• Long Term Planning – lead teams to ensure a robust and reliable long-term investment plan for varied types of assets that could include hotels, merchandise/food/beverage locations, entertainment venues, and attractions.
• Design and Planning – lead teams to develop comprehensive overall design management and schedules to deliver innovative design solutions that maximize value and accomplish stakeholder goals with minimal impact to daily operations.
• Project Execution – lead teams to effectively deliver projects. Ensure the maintaining of cost control, scheduling, permitting, construction, and operational turnover while minimizing operational outages, finding delivery efficiencies, and evaluating lifecycle cost.
• Coordination - Collaborate and Partner with internal clients and partners and external vendors/contractors to deliver exceptional delivery for clients.
• Cast Development – continually develop and grow a Cast base through coaching, continuous learning, technology, and support of local initiatives and strategies.
• Controls – monitor and enforce guidelines and policies related to safety, budgets, schedules, risk management, project management, etc.
• Manage Risks – take ownership of the project process and be able to identify and mitigate project risks and challenges.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
• Mentor and support the professional development of team members in alignment with value driven support performance expectations.
• Develop a strong professional relationship with the various facility and infrastructure governing bodies as appropriate at the local District and State level(s) respectively.
• Nurturing the abilities of individual team members, motivating them to execute high-quality work, and promoting teamwork and cohesion across all relative work teams.
• Provide leadership and direction for our overall facilities – structural integrity, & corrosion mitigation inspection programs including continued auditing / refinement and consistent execution to ensure a complete robust program.
Basic Qualifications
• Minimum of ten-year progressive project leadership experience with a major entertainment or hospitality brand or related industry.
• Demonstrated experience creating, negotiating, and managing multiple design and construction projects of all sizes.
• Demonstrated experience in deep and broad understanding of overall land development, building, and fire code(s) with the ability to lead the organization through the most appropriate interpretation and implementation.
• 3 years or more of demonstrated experience accurately and reliably planning a multi-discipline large portfolio of facility and infrastructure assets fully through the development, approval, contracting, procurement, and field construction implementation.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships with peers, clients, and key business partners including, contractors, consultants, Legal, and representatives within Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
• Experience with decision making based on lifecycle analysis for long-term asset management.
• Proven blend of business acumen, independent judgement, strategic vision, technical expertise, and hands-on leadership.
• Proven servant leader with an ability to inspire, motivate, and lead a team (both direct reports and matrix) to develop creative and efficient solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
• Proven developer of people, helping direct reports continually improve and grow their careers, and experience with performance management processes.
• Proactive communicator and relator who can interface effectively at all levels in the company and can appropriately influence business results through negotiation, influence and personal presence.
• Proven track record of driving efficiency and effectiveness in large teams through established and creative metrics and collaboration.
• Experience managing and evolving organizational structures to meet the needs of a quickly moving and changing industry.
• Proven experience in managing large-scale engineering and architecture projects.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop team members.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Managing budgets, reporting to Sr. leadership, partnering with peers and stakeholders, and ensuring financial control over projects.
Preferred Qualifications
• In-depth knowledge of Walt Disney Company standards as well as industry standards, and regulations.
Required Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture or related technical State of Florida licensable field with a current active Florida license, specifically Professional Engineer (PE) License or Licensed Architect.
Preferred Education
• Master of Engineering, MBA, Construction Management or equivalent.
